Ultrasound Care Specialists

Our doctors are highly experienced obstetricians and gynaecologists specialising in obstetric & gynaecological ultrasound as well as prenatal diagnosis. All are extremely motivated to provide a professional and caring approachto women of all backgrounds.

Dr Philippa Ramsay

Dr Philippa Ramsay is an obstetrician and gynaecologist who has sub-specialised in Obstetric and Gynaecological Ultrasound and Prenatal Diagnosis since 1990.

She has a VMO appointment at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and is a Lecturer in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Sydney University. She is an examiner in Ultrasound for the Ultrasound sub-specialty of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Dr Ramsay has written several book chapters on Obstetric and Gynaecological Ultrasound. She is a member of the Australian Association of Obstetric and Gynaecological Ultrasonologists, the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine and the Perinatal Society of Australia and New Zealand.

Philippa is the Director of Ultrasound Care and San Ultrasound for Women. She believes in providing empathetic and professional care for women and girls of all ages.

Dr Linda Atkins

Dr Linda Atkins is an obstetrician and gynaecologist who specialises in Obstetric and Gynaecological Ultrasound and has done for the past 25 years. As well as being a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, she holds the Diploma in Diagnostic Ultrasound. Linda's special interest is in 3-dimensional and 4-dimensional ultrasound, particularly 3-dimensional reconstruction of Mullerian anomalies of the uterus. Linda is known for her clear explanation of difficult medical problems.

Linda is also a lecturer and examiner for the University of Sydney Medical School.



Dr Joanne Ludlow 


Dr Joanne Ludlow is an obstetrician and gynaecologist with a special interest in Gynaecological and Obstetric Ultrasound.

She runs the Early Pregnancy Assessment Service at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and looks after many patients with unusual ectopic pregnancies.

She has published research articles and continues to present at national and international meetings.

Dr Ludlow is also developing an interest in the ultrasound diagnosis of Deep Infiltrating Endometriosis.

She is a valued partner in Ultrasound Care where she is very popular with the staff and patients.

Dr Karen Mizia

Dr Karen Mizia joined the practice in November 2007. She came to us from the Royal Hospital for Women where she was a staff specialist having completed two years of sub-specialty training in the Department of Fetal Medicine.  Since then she has completed a Masters of Public Health from Queensland University, holds the Diploma in Diagnostic Ultrasound and is a recognised subspecialist in Obstetric and Gynaecological Ultrasound.  She has worked as a senior staff specialist at Canberra Hospital and currently works as a Fetal Medicine Specialist at Westmead Hospital.

She has done research into the difficult diagnosis of late fetal growth restriction and along with Dr Lynn Townsend has published on some of the difficulties with Non Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) for sex chromosomes.

Karen is currently the Deputy Chair of the NSW Regional Committee for RANZCOG. She is actively involved in the Australian Society of Ultrasound in Medicine residing as a Counselor, Chair of the Standards of Practice committee and Chair of the Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound. She is a dedicated teacher and proponent for exploring new techniques and ensuring the highest possible diagnostic services for her patients and Ultrasound Care.

Dr Lynn Townsend

Dr Lynn Townsend completed her obstetric and gynaecological training at the Royal Hospital for Women in Randwick. She holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Sydney and was awarded the Royal North Shore Medal during her final year. Lynn also holds a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Physiology from the University of New South Wales.

Lynn is actively involved with mentoring and teaching medical students as a conjoint associate lecturer with UNSW. She holds membership with a number of professional associations including the ASUM and SOMANZ.

Her interests include genetic screening tests, abnormal placentation and ultrasound investigation of infertility.

Being a mother of three beautiful and energetic daughters herself, Lynn has an understanding and genuine interest in all aspects of pregnancy and women’s health. Lynn is very pleased to be a part of the team at Ultrasound Care to provide individualised and comprehensive care.

Dr Lucy Bowyer


Dr Lucy Bowyer is an obstetrician gynaecologist and a sub-specialist in Materno-Fetal medicine. She completed her medical training at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and then went on to specialise in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the North East of England. She moved to Sydney in 1996 to complete a doctorate on high blood pressure in pregnancy and then went on to become a consultant at the Royal Hospital for Women in 2003.

She is also a conjoint Senior Lecturer at the University of NSW, and an author of numerous publications on the treatment of medical problems in pregnancy. She consults with women with complex problems in pregnancy at the Royal Hospital for Women.  She brings these skills and experience to help women at Ultrasound Care.
