At Ultrasound Care, we prioritise sustainability in every aspect of our practice design. Our commitment to the environment is reflected in the careful selection of materials, furniture, and fittings, as well as the implementation of efficient systems. Here’s how we incorporate sustainability into our practice design:
Efficient Space and Quality Fit out
Our practices are designed with efficiency and longevity in mind. We focus on creating spaces that maximise utility while ensuring that materials and fittings are durable and high-quality. This approach not only reduces the need for frequent replacements but also minimises waste and environmental impact.
Recycling and Reusing Materials
Whenever possible, we recycle joinery from other fit outs. For example, our Randwick and Newtown locations have benefited from the reuse of materials, reducing the demand for new resources and lowering our environmental footprint.
Sustainable Furniture Choices
Our loose furniture is proudly made in Australia by Workspace Commercial Furniture. Their products are designed to last a minimum of ten years, and the company is committed to sustainable practices. By choosing Workspace, we support local manufacturing and ensure that our furniture has a minimal harmful impact on the environment. Additionally, the furnishing fabrics we select are either Australian-made or chosen for their longevity, high wearability, and recycled content.
Reupholstering Over Replacing
In line with our commitment to sustainability, we often reupholster waiting chairs and sofas during upgrades rather than purchasing new ones. This practice not only extends the life of our furniture but also reduces waste.
Low-VOC Paints
We use water-based paints with lower levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), including Aquanamel water-based enamel for doors. These paints are safer for both our staff and patients, contributing to a healthier indoor environment.
Water-Efficient and Recyclable Fittings
Our choice of fittings reflects our commitment to sustainability. We generally use Caroma fittings for toilets, basins, and taps. These fittings are Australian designed and engineered, featuring long life and water-saving technology. Additionally, they can be recycled into other products at the end of their lifecycle.
Energy-Efficient Lighting
New fit outs at our practices are equipped with efficient LED lighting. This not only reduces our energy consumption but also lowers our environmental impact.
Sustainable Ceiling Tiles
For new fit outs, such as our Newtown location, we use Armstrong Ultima Ceiling tiles. These tiles have the highest third-party sustainability certification, are recyclable, and improve acoustics, contributing to a more comfortable and eco-friendly environment.
Recycled-Content Flooring
Our general flooring consists of carpet tiles made with around 45% recycled content. These tiles can be replaced or moved around to increase their longevity, reducing the need for new materials.
Locally Made Blinds
To control daytime sun glare and heat, we use Helioscreen locally made blinds. This choice supports local manufacturing and ensures that our blinds are effective and sustainable.
Indoor Plants for Air Quality
We have living green plants in our rooms to improve air quality creating a healthier environment for both patients and staff.
Minimising Waste with Kitchen Facilities
Each of our rooms is equipped with a kitchen facility, including crockery, coffee, a refrigerator, and a microwave. This setup minimises the need for takeaway containers and coffee cups, reducing our environmental impact.
Integrated Storage and Efficient Bins
Integrated storage and bins are a key part of our practice design. They improve efficiency and help minimise wastage, ensuring that our practices run smoothly and sustainably.
At Ultrasound Care, sustainability is not just a buzzword—it’s a fundamental aspect of how we operate. Through thoughtful design and careful selection of materials, we strive to create spaces that are not only efficient and welcoming but also kind to the environment.
